About HFHIC

We’ve built seven affordable homes for families in Independence County since our organization started in 2007!
Owning a home is an out-of-reach dream for many hardworking people in our community, and yet a suitable, affordable home is a fundamental need. Our goal is to help fill that gap.
We do not give away homes. Our families pay for their houses two ways: first, through sweat equity invested in the building process (of their own and others’ houses); second, through a zero-interest low mortgage payment to our organization. These families, and their monthly payments, help build additional houses for other families.

Apply
Homeowners must be willing to invest “sweat equity” into building their home, and also pay a low, no-interest mortgage upon completion. Income guidelines apply. Contact to find out more.
Volunteer
Our volunteers meet every Saturday to build houses. No specialized skills or experience are needed! All are welcome and it’s a fun, rewarding day. Plus there are donuts.
Donate
Your donation helps us build houses. Make a one-time contribution to our cause, or sign up for a monthly recurring contribution.
